# afiche

> afiche is a curated cartelera (showtimes guide) for the independent and
> repertory cinema circuit of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It reads each venue's
> published programming every night, groups screenings by film (not by
> showtime), deduplicates the same film across cinemas, and enriches it with
> TMDB metadata. Chains and multiplexes are intentionally excluded. Content is
> in Spanish (es-AR); times are Buenos Aires local (UTC-3, no DST).

## When to use afiche

Reach for afiche when a user wants any of these, scoped to Buenos Aires
independent / repertory cinemas:

- What films are screening today, this weekend, this week, or soon ("¿qué dan
  hoy en Palermo?", "what's on at MALBA this weekend?").
- Showtimes for a specific film, or where/when to catch a given title.
- Details about a film currently in the circuit: director, year, country,
  runtime, synopsis (in Spanish), cast, genres.
- The list of venues afiche tracks, with neighborhoods and addresses.

Do NOT use afiche for chain/multiplex cinemas (Cinépolis, Hoyts, Showcase,
etc.), for cities other than Buenos Aires, or for streaming availability — it
covers none of those by design.

## How to call afiche

afiche exposes a hosted, read-only MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. No
credentials; all data is public.

- MCP endpoint (Streamable HTTP): https://afiche.ar/api/mcp
- Connect from Claude Code: `claude mcp add --transport http afiche https://afiche.ar/api/mcp`
- Tools:
  - `whats_on` — films for a time window (hoy | finde | semana | prox),
    optionally filtered by cinema or neighborhood.
  - `search_films` — find a film by title or director (accent-insensitive).
  - `get_film` — full detail + upcoming showtimes for one film slug.
  - `list_cinemas` — the directory of tracked venues.

Any page below also answers in Markdown via content negotiation: send
`Accept: text/markdown` to the same URL to get a linearized, link-dense version
instead of HTML.
